Environmental Authority in Colombia Secures Its Network Infrastructure With Fortinet Solutions

Corporación Autónoma Regional (CAR) of Cundinamarca, the regional environmental authority in Colombia responsible for 1.8 million hectares and services to millions of residents, needed to modernize its network to collect and analyze data from a tier‑three data center and 14 remote sites (including river monitoring, a wastewater plant, and an IoT lab). CAR’s existing firewall was underpowered and internal tests showed vulnerabilities that could expose active directory, applications and sensitive data, while an underperforming MPLS link threatened availability for business‑critical apps and ~2,500 users.

CAR implemented a Fortinet stack—FortiGate NGFWs at headquarters, the data center and critical sites, Fortinet Secure SD‑WAN across 14 locations, plus FortiWeb, FortiClient, FortiSIEM and FortiSandbox—for layered security and centralized management. The solution delivered sub‑second WAN failover, real‑time monitoring and automated reporting, stronger segmentation and endpoint protection, high availability for remote offices, and a scalable, integrated platform to protect data and support growth.
