Effective Cutting-edge Security For A Public Electric Utility Company

Elektroprivreda BiH, the largest public electric utility in Bosnia and Herzegovina based in Sarajevo, serves over 756,000 customers and employs about 4,400 people. Management faced an aging, multi-vendor security stack that lacked high availability, SSL inspection, centralized management and support for routing and IPsec VPNs to remote sites, so they sought a single-vendor, state-of-the-art cybersecurity solution to reduce complexity and improve protection.

In October 2017 they chose Fortinet and deployed FortiGate (two 500D in Active‑Active and 100E at remote sites), FortiWeb, FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer with partner EMC; the full rollout finished in 30 days and recovered service quickly after a prior firewall failure. The consolidated solution improved visibility (notably SSL inspection), reduced security incidents and maintenance downtime, centralized management so a 3–5 person team now spends about an hour a day on security, and now protects 2,500 users across the main and two remote sites.
