A Fortinet Case Study

Canadian County Consolidates Security Strategy with Fortinet to Deliver Top Services to the Community

Grey County, an upper-tier municipality in Ontario serving more than 100,000 residents, needed to safeguard large volumes of sensitive municipal data—resident demographics, property records, social services, tax and revenue information—while modernizing digital services. The county faced rising risks from ransomware, social-engineering attacks and exposed web applications, and its existing firewall lacked the visibility and functionality to detect and respond effectively, especially with a growing hybrid workforce and remote endpoints.

Working with a Fortinet MSSP, Grey County implemented FortiGate NGFW alongside FortiSIEM, FortiEDR, FortiClient EMS and FortiGuard SOCaaS with FortiCare support to centralize logs, automate threat response and secure endpoints. The consolidated platform delivered improved network visibility, faster detection and response, reduced staff workload, stronger data protection—and even earned the county an Excellence in Municipal Systems award.
