Brazilian Public Educational Institution Implements a Convergent Network and Security Infrastructure with the Fortinet Platform

Fundação Instituto de Educação de Barueri (FIEB) is a public educational institution in the São Paulo metro area with seven campuses, 637 educators and about 12,000 students. Until 2020 its network supported only about 100 simultaneous users (less than 5% of students), suffered service drops and slow applications, and relied on single-provider links with manual failover—issues that became critical during the shift to virtual learning.

Working with partner Secureway, FIEB deployed Fortinet’s converged platform—FortiGate NGFWs, Secure SD‑WAN, FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer—across eight sites. The deployment delivered automated multi‑link failover, load balancing, centralized policy and visibility, and real‑time security analytics, enabling 100% student internet access, Wi‑Fi capacity to exceed 2,000 simultaneous connections, reduced investment in redundant links, and more efficient IT support.
