AUT secures wireless access for 8300 staff and students daily with Fortinet security infrastructure

Auckland University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand’s second-largest university with over 28,000 students across three campuses, faced rapid growth in wireless use and a more complex threat landscape that demanded continual upgrades, easy deployment and minimal change-management overhead. Protecting roughly 8,300 daily wireless users while keeping operations simple and secure was the primary challenge.

AUT partnered with Fortinet and Platinum partner Optinet to deploy a multi-appliance FortiGate solution (including FortiGate 3240C and 1000C HA units) plus FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager and FortiGuard subscriptions with managed services. The result: reliable, low-latency wired and wireless protection for thousands of users, six years with no major incidents, reduced operational overhead and ongoing threat updates that provide continuity and confidence.
