A Secure SD-Branch Brings Extended Protection To Industrial Networks

ENGIE Italia, the Italian arm of global energy and services group ENGIE, faced rapid network growth after a 2015 merger that expanded its footprint to more than 120 remote sites. The legacy MPLS design couldn’t scale, drove up WAN costs, limited visibility into branch and industrial networks, and slowed cloud adoption—creating security, redundancy, and operational challenges for IT and OT teams.

Working with Wellcomm, ENGIE deployed a Fortinet SD-Branch solution—FortiGate NGFWs, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, SD-WAN, and centralized management with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer—to enable local internet breakouts to trusted cloud apps and centralize policy and logging. The rollout simplified hardware, improved visibility and segmentation (including guest separation), eliminated a secondary MPLS link, lowered connectivity costs, and accelerated IT/OT collaboration and troubleshooting.
