A Company Operating in the Agribusiness, Biofuels, and Renewable Energy Generation Sectors Consolidates IT and OT Network Infrastructure with Fortinet

Brasil BioFuels (BBF) is a Brazilian agribusiness and renewable‑energy company operating palm oil, biodiesel and 38 thermoelectric plants across remote Amazonian regions and isolated energy systems. Because many sites are reachable only by air or river and face severe weather, BBF struggled with unreliable connectivity, high latency, insecure/ungoverned networks, and slow, travel‑heavy troubleshooting—making IT/OT segregation, stable Wi‑Fi and centralized control critical challenges.

Working with partner Interatell, BBF deployed Fortinet’s consolidated security and management stack (FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiClient) across 34 sites to segment IT/OT, centralize orchestration and enable site‑to‑site VPNs and real‑time monitoring. Results included packet loss falling from 27% to 1.6%, unified visibility and 90% faster issue identification, 100% delivery of regulatory telemetry, continuous network availability, reduced travel for IT staff and improved productivity and security.
