Leading Spanish Bank Expands and Enhances Service through Fortinet Secure SD-WAN

CaixaBank, a leading Spanish retail bank serving over 20 million customers through roughly 5,000 branches, needed to modernize its wide-area network as it migrated services to the cloud and expanded digital and mobile offerings. Its legacy MPLS hub-and-spoke design became a performance bottleneck and replacing MPLS with broadband raised security and resilience concerns across thousands of sites.

CaixaBank implemented Fortinet Secure SD‑WAN using FortiGate NGFWs plus FortiSwitch, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer and FortiExtender for wireless backup and zero‑touch provisioning, enabling centralized management and unified security at the branch level. The 5,000‑site rollout completed in 18 months cut network communications costs by about 50%, improved application performance and resilience, and supported new mobile branch services with better bandwidth and lower latency.
