A Fortinet Case Study
The Pennsylvania Legislative Data Processing Center (LDPC) provides core IT services for the commonwealth’s legislative operations—managing bill documents, payroll, and acting as an MSP for smaller agencies. Facing repeated, network‑wide outages, limited DDoS protection, unreliable VPNs and poor vendor support, the two‑person network team was forced into frequent reboots and needed a more reliable, easy‑to‑manage firewall and security platform.
LDPC engaged Trustlink/BCI to deploy Fortinet: FortiGate NGFWs (HA pairs), FortiSwitch, Secure SD‑WAN, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiAuthenticator and FortiClient, protected by FortiGuard UTP and configured with per‑agency VLANs and BGP redundancy. The new architecture improved throughput and uptime, stabilized VPN and Microsoft Teams performance, consolidated logging for faster threat detection and response (including identifying C&C traffic), reduced admin overhead, and freed staff to focus on projects like load balancing and moving toward zero‑trust access.
