Yale Enhances Patient Safety, Billing with OnCore and EMR Integration

Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) needed a better way to connect its clinical trial management system, OnCore, with the Epic EMR to reduce manual data entry, improve patient safety, and strengthen billing compliance. Like many academic medical centers, Yale was managing research operations and patient care in separate systems, creating risks for data accuracy, workflow inefficiency, and charge capture errors.

Forte worked with Yale and Epic to build two interfaces between OnCore and Epic: one for protocol and subject information, and another for protocol billing grid data. The integration automatically shared research participant status, protocol details, billing designations, and charge-routing information, helping Yale improve patient safety and compliance while saving staff time. According to Yale, the interface put them in a much better place for billing compliance and helped them become “as compliant right now” as possible, while also standardizing processes across hospitals.
