Polar Hardware boosts output to 800 parts per 10-hour shift with Formic Technologies

Polar Manufacturing, a long-standing designer and manufacturer of industrial door and truck body hardware, faced a significant challenge in keeping up with production demands due to its reliance on a 50-year-old press machine operated manually. To boost productivity without high upfront costs or complexity, the company turned to Formic Technologies and its pay-for-productivity robotics-as-a-service model.

Formic implemented a custom automation solution featuring a UR5e collaborative robot, which was integrated with the legacy press using external sensors and an automated safety block. The mobile system was designed to be moved aside for manual operations. This partnership resulted in a remarkable increase to 800 parts produced per 10-hour shift. Impressed by the results and the convenient performance dashboard, Polar is now pursuing additional automation opportunities with Formic.
