Affinity Health System’s Mercy Medical Center was struggling with an outdated paper workflow: more than 200 preprinted chart forms and a credit-card embossing system that was slow, costly to buy and stock, and often produced unreadable patient identification. The time and expense of ordering, inventorying and distributing forms tied up staff and limited the hospital’s ability to pursue a more efficient, paperless record strategy.

Affinity piloted FormFast’s forms-automation software integrated with Meditech, allowing plain paper and laser printers to generate forms, wristbands and barcoded patient IDs on demand and to route radiology reports directly to nursing stations. The rollout eliminated hundreds of preprinted forms, saved staff time, improved legibility and real-time distribution, reduced costs and administrative errors, and enabled faster updates to forms as the organization moves toward a fully electronic record.
