Akron General Medical Center faced a patient-safety and identification challenge: many chart form identifiers were illegible, pre-printed multi-part forms were costly and hard to update, and they needed a solution that would integrate with their McKesson Plus 2000 HIS and MedPlus ChartMaxx document system. Leaders sought a way to improve legibility, streamline distribution and scanning, and make regulatory and protocol changes faster and more reliable.

The hospital implemented FormFast, adding electronic form numbers, barcodes and grouped packets, and rolled the system out beginning in Admitting and Psychiatric units while using a master spreadsheet and audit procedures to manage conversion. Within ten months they had 523 forms in production, printed more than three million pages, realized tens of thousands in savings on pre-printed forms, improved record legibility from 55% to 95%, cut form-update turnaround from months to days, and simplified scanning and distribution across the facility.
