Cruise Autonomous Vehicle Driving into a Bike Lane in Austin

Cruise, a major autonomous vehicle company, was challenged by an incident where one of its driverless cars in Austin, Texas, improperly turned into a bike lane. This highlighted the critical need for autonomous vehicles to be tested under a vast range of conditions to uncover unforeseen edge cases and ensure public safety.

The vendor, Foretellix, used its Foretify™ platform to address this. Their solution involved creating an abstract scenario from the incident using ASAM OpenSCENARIO 2.0 code. The Foretify platform then generated and executed over 10,000 concrete test variations in a virtual simulation, systematically covering different junctions, weather, lighting, and obstacle conditions to thoroughly validate the AV's performance and identify potential failures.
