Tennessee Department of Transportation Counts on Forescout to “Guard the Guards” and Reduce Risk of Business Disruption or Breach

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), responsible for the state’s roadways, rail, waterways and airports, needed absolute, real-time visibility across 5,000+ wired and wireless endpoints—including IT, IoT and OT—to reduce the risk of network disruption or breach and to demonstrate continuous device compliance. Limited access to statewide network infrastructure and reliance on other teams for device reports left TDOT unable to validate the integrity of data from existing security tools or quickly remediate noncompliant devices.

TDOT deployed the Forescout device visibility and control platform, gaining agentless discovery, real‑time posture assessment and a single “source of truth” for asset inventory and trust validation. Within an hour it began collecting valuable data, auto-classified >95% of devices, uncovered 10–15% noncompliant endpoints (including an unmanaged Windows XP machine), saved about 27 hours per week in manual work, and delivered $300K–$500K in annual insurance premium savings—while enabling automated incident response via Splunk integration.
