One of the largest electric power and gas utilities in the US, serving more than 3 million customers, needed to improve situational awareness and anomaly detection across its ICS/SCADA estate — covering generation, transmission, distribution, substations and battery storage — to mitigate rising internal and external cyber risks. After an RFP that drew 25 vendors and an onsite proof-of-concept with four finalists, Forescout’s SilentDefense was chosen for its superior capabilities and maturity.

SilentDefense was deployed across generation plants, control centers, battery sites and substations and fully integrated into the utility’s SIEM and SOC monitoring, later extending to all substations and gas infrastructure. In the first weeks it identified critical issues — non-production devices on production networks, SCADA master and RTU misconfigurations, switch segmentation errors and policy violations — substantially improving the utility’s industrial cyber resilience.
