A Food Decision Software Case Study
J.Quattrocchi, a long-standing Canadian produce distributor founded in 1922, faced a major recall challenge during the September 2006 E. coli outbreak linked to spinach that prompted CFIA and FDA precautionary recalls (affecting produce distributed in at least 26 U.S. states). As a client of Food Decision Software using WinFDS Version 5.0, J.Quattrocchi needed to rapidly produce detailed product, lot and distribution records to regulatory agencies to locate and remove potentially contaminated inventory.
Food Decision Software’s WinFDS enabled J.Quattrocchi to quickly retrieve full product histories, trace baby spinach through manufacturing and packaging (including spring mix combinations), and identify specific lots for recall. Using WinFDS’s track-and-trace, lot control and HACCP reporting, J.Quattrocchi reproduced required records and cooperated efficiently with CFIA/FDA—allowing rapid removal of suspect items from inventories and helping safeguard consumers during the spinach recall.
