Yokahoma uses WiFi to improve visitor experience

Yokohama Chinatown Development Association, which supports 4,000 residents and more than 300 businesses in Japan’s largest Chinatown, wanted to improve the visitor experience for the 21 million annual visitors coming to the area. To create a more tourist-friendly environment and boost engagement, the association turned to Fontech’s WiFi Service Management Platform and captive portal approach.

Fontech delivered a hardware-agnostic WiFi solution that enabled guest WiFi with 2 hours of free access through a portal, which the association used to promote local offers, shops, events, and guided tours. The result was a more welcoming digital experience for visitors and a better service platform for businesses, helping Yokohama Chinatown increase customer satisfaction and engagement across its 50,000–60,000 daily visitors.
