Case Study: Wireless Gate achieves expanded public WiFi coverage in Niseko with Fontech

Wireless Gate pursued an ambitious opportunity

Wireless Gate, a Japan-based MVNO, wanted to strengthen its public WiFi presence and complement cellular coverage in high-density areas, starting with Niseko ski resort, which sees about 200,000 visitors each winter, most of them foreigners. To do this, Wireless Gate partnered with Fontech to deliver a public WiFi experience that would work across the resort’s varied and heterogeneous network environment.

Fontech provided a hardware-agnostic WiFi solution with a simple login and registration flow, enabling Wireless Gate and the Niseko Ski Board to offer visitors 30 minutes of free WiFi through a captive portal that also promoted the resort’s services. The project helped Wireless Gate reduce data costs and strengthen its brand, while Niseko gained free WiFi for visitors, improved guest experience, and growing WiFi availability across its 300 affiliated businesses.
