Fon helps Telstra build Australia’s largest WiFi network: Telstra Air

Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications provider, wanted to build the country’s largest WiFi network and give customers a better connected experience across mobile, broadband, and public locations. To do this, Telstra partnered with Fontech to launch Telstra Air, using Fon’s WiFi technology to extend connectivity beyond the home and complement its existing services.

Fontech helped Telstra deploy a large-scale, shared WiFi network built from payphone hotspots and residential broadband gateways, with secure dual-band access for members and roaming access overseas through Fon’s global network. The program delivered more than 650,000 Telstra Air hotspots across Australia, added 1.3 million customers, sold 9,000+ passes monthly, and helped reduce churn, improve customer experience, and increase acquisition.
