UC Merced engages new readers with immersive digital annual report

UC Merced, a University of California campus, faced a visibility problem for its Office of Information Technology: printed annual reports (created in InDesign and sometimes published as static flipbooks) were costly and rarely read, so the office struggled to communicate the value of its work to the broader campus on a limited budget. In 2017 they moved to an interactive digital annual report using the Foleon platform to create web-like publications that could better engage readers.

Using Foleon’s drag-and-drop platform and a broader campus license, UC Merced rebuilt its annual report and then expanded to brochures, orientation guides and a bi-monthly magazine series; the transition was quick and supported by responsive Foleon service. The results include more than 10k sessions and 9 publications since 2018, campus-wide adoption (requests from the Provost and other CIOs), and award recognition (CASE District VII bronze for the “The Future Of...” series), demonstrating measurable increases in engagement and visibility thanks to Foleon.
