Highmark Health, one of the largest integrated health systems and Blue Cross Blue Shield insurers in the U.S., manages 79 locations and more than 4.7 million sq. ft. across a 35,000‑person workforce. Post‑COVID, the Real Estate Services team needed to balance employee safety, hybrid work models and long‑term portfolio strategy—deciding who would be onsite, offsite or flexible, redesigning office space for different work styles, and optimizing owned versus leased properties.

Using FMS:Workplace (with Workday integration), Highmark implemented desk and space reservations, health attestations, floor‑plan experimentation, move management, and touchless entry/sensor technologies to support safety and hybrid scheduling. The solution delivered real‑time occupancy visibility, streamlined moves and planning, pilots for activity‑based designs, and a path to mobile employee services—enabling a safer return, improved employee experience, and data‑driven space and cost optimization across the portfolio.
