Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) is a Boston‑based, not‑for‑profit health plan serving over 2.8 million members with 1M+ sq ft across five properties and 3,600+ employees. Facing rapid market shifts, changing workforce trends and a mandate to align workplace design with core values, the facilities team needed greater adaptability and answers to three questions: where is everybody, how best to use space, and how to align the environment with corporate values — all while minimizing disruption and automating reporting.
BCBSMA selected FM:Systems’ FMS:Workplace (starting with Space & Move Management) to provide centralized floor plans, real‑time analytics, move coordination, wayfinding and self‑service booking. The system is used daily across the organization, enabling faster relocations (including a 1,000‑person move), automated communications, vacancy reporting that identified ~100 workplaces to shut off, standardized workstations and a 25% reduction in HQ footprint (400,000 SF to 308,000 SF). The result: more strategic space use, improved collaboration and employee empowerment, and a workplace better aligned with health, wellness and operational goals.
