A Flywire Case Study
Wesleyan University, a private liberal arts college in Middletown, CT, faced a campus-wide challenge of heavy reliance on cash and check payments—including hand-delivered checks—and a growing need to digitize ancillary payments and receivables as staff shifted to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Wesleyan had already used Flywire for international tuition payments but needed a centralized, user-friendly online solution to reduce manual processing, improve payer experience, and give departments more control.
Flywire implemented its eStore online shopping cart and event-registration platform, performed setup, and trained Wesleyan staff so departments could self-manage storefronts. The Flywire eStore launched stores within a day for events like a virtual Turkey Trot and a radio fundraiser, scaled to seven stores and 70+ products, and in the first few months processed 300+ orders and $89k+ in transactions. The solution centralized management, sped access to funds, reduced manual check processing, and improved reporting and GL coding—delivering measurable efficiency and risk-reduction benefits for Wesleyan.
