A Flywire Case Study
Wayne State University, one of the 50 largest public universities in the U.S., needed a better way to manage the highly manual and time-consuming process of collecting past-due tuition. The university wanted to reduce defaulted balances, improve visibility into payment status, and make it easier for students to set up payment plans and stay enrolled. It used Flywire’s past-due collections offering to modernize this process.
With Flywire, Wayne State automated collector workflows, payment plan administration, and student communication around overdue bills. Since 2019, Flywire has helped the university collect $5.94 million in past-due tuition, including $1.9 million since the start of the 2022-2023 academic year, while more than 55% of students who fell behind are now back in good standing. Wayne State also estimates Flywire is saving $205,668 per year in collection costs, for a total of $1.7 million saved since implementation.
