Osaka Metropolitan University, Japan’s largest public university with 16,000 students and a growing international population, faced complex, costly international tuition payments—high remittance fees, cumbersome bank procedures, FX paperwork and difficult refunds—that made the finance team reluctant to accept overseas payments, a problem amplified by COVID-19. As a result, Flywire processed more than ¥46.5 million from 10 countries in 11 currencies, cut costs by ¥1,009,141 in credit card fees, ¥280,000 in bank transfer fees and ¥84,000 in refund costs, reduced customer support needs and improved international student satisfaction.
