Manchester Metropolitan University, one of the UK’s largest higher education institutions serving 35,000+ students from 130+ countries, faced fragmented payment systems that complicated domestic and international payments, limited local-currency and preferred payment options, and required heavy manual intervention by staff. Flywire consolidated 23 integrations into a single platform, added flexible local-currency payment choices, self-serve student accounts, and instalment plans—resulting in a 40% increase in payment-plan enrolment, 75% payer engagement with the online portal, and secure processing of over 25,000 transactions in 60+ currencies across 130+ countries. The Flywire implementation reduced manual reconciliation, delivered £2M in pre-payments and £2.6M in online enrolment payments in the first year, and has processed more than £150M through the Flywire network since 2015.
