A Flyability Case Study
VZU Plzen, a specialized research and testing institute, was challenged with inspecting a 700-meter-long penstock for a hydroelectric dam in the Czech Republic. The traditional inspection method required building a custom scaffolding trolley, a process that took 12 days and involved significant safety risks for workers operating at height in a confined space. VZU Plzen used the Elios 3 drone from Flyability to perform this inspection remotely.
Using the Flyability Elios 3, VZU Plzen conducted the entire penstock inspection in just two days, an 84% reduction in time. The drone's protective cage and LiDAR technology allowed for safe and efficient data collection in the dark, confined space, eliminating the need for human entry. The solution provided high-quality 4K video and a precise LiDAR point cloud, delivering a comprehensive assessment where four previous companies had failed.
