Volcan Compañía Minera, a Peruvian mining company, faced unique challenges inspecting its high-altitude Andaychagua mine, located 4,600 meters above sea level in the Andes Mountains. The extreme altitude and oxygen-depleted environment limited the viability of typical inspection solutions. The company tested Flyability's Elios 2 drone to see if it could operate under these harsh conditions and collect the required visual data.

Flyability's Elios 2 drone successfully met the challenge, performing approximately 40 flights inside chimneys, stopes, and ore passes. The solution provided sufficient lighting and collected high-quality visual data, which was used to create both detailed and sparse 3D models of the mine. This allowed Volcan personnel to visualize conditions, improve safety, and identify extra ore. Flyability's solution proved that the Elios 2 could operate effectively at high altitude, leading Volcan to consider adopting it for inspections across its mines.
