Vattenfall maps a no-go zone in 30 minutes with Flyability

Vattenfall, a major European energy producer, faced the challenge of inspecting and creating 3D maps of hazardous "no go" zones within a decommissioned power plant. These areas were too dangerous for personnel to enter due to risks like falling objects. To tackle this safely, Vattenfall partnered with Flyability to test the Elios 3, an indoor drone equipped with LiDAR technology.

Using the Flyability Elios 3 drone, personnel were able to fly into the inaccessible stairwell and collect LiDAR data to create accurate 3D models. This solution eliminated the need for risky rope access or scaffolding, which would have taken weeks. Instead, the data was gathered in just 30 minutes of flight time, demonstrating significant time and labor savings while keeping all personnel safely outside the hazardous area.
