TVA cuts scrubber inspection time by 98% with Flyability

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the largest public power provider in the United States, faced a significant safety and efficiency challenge with its scrubber inspections. These inspections, which required personnel to erect and work on scaffolding 80 feet in the air, were dangerous and time-consuming. TVA tested a drone from vendor Flyability, the Elios, to see if it could collect the necessary visual data remotely and improve the process.

Using the Flyability Elios drone, TVA personnel were able to complete the inspection without any scaffolding. The drone successfully collected all required visual data in just 10 hours, a drastic reduction from the 480 hours typically needed. This represented a 98% time savings, equating to 470 work hours saved, while also completely eliminating the safety risks associated with working at dangerous heights. The success of this test has led TVA to expand its drone program with Flyability for other use cases.
