TEXO surveys an 8.6-hectare coal plant in 2 days with Flyability

TEXO, a surveying and inspection specialist, was brought in by an engineering company to assess the condition of a condemned and dangerous disused coal plant in Wales. The challenge was to safely gather comprehensive data on the site's structures, including a chimney and old buildings, which were potentially filled with biological hazards like bird waste and asbestos, as well as carcinogenic industrial debris. To comply with strict safety protocols and avoid exposing personnel to these risks, TEXO employed the Elios 3 drone from Flyability for the inspection.

Using the Flyability Elios 3, TEXO conducted remote LiDAR and visual data capture inside the hazardous chimney and buildings. The solution allowed inspectors to safely navigate the confined and debris-filled spaces, gathering critical data without any personnel entering the unsafe areas. The entire 8.6-hectare site was surveyed in just two days, keeping the project on time and within budget. The data collected was used for architectural plans and to plan safe future access, proving the value of drones for both safety and efficiency on cultural heritage projects.
