Salt Mine in Germany Surveying Department saves 2 days per stockpile survey with Flyability

The surveying department at a salt mine in Germany faced significant challenges in performing monthly stockpile volume calculations. Their manual method required surveyors to climb large salt cones to take measurements, a process that was time-consuming, physically demanding, and presented safety risks due to working at height. Seeking a better solution, they tested Flyability's Elios 3 drone.

Using the Elios 3 equipped with a LiDAR sensor, Flyability provided a solution that allowed surveyors to collect data by flying the drone from the safety of the chamber entrance. The results were highly successful, making the process significantly faster and safer. The data collected was also far more accurate than manual measurements. The test was so effective that the department is considering adopting the Flyability drone for all volume calculations and for creating detailed 3D maps of the entire mine.
