Case Study: Idaho Environmental Coalition proves Elios 3 radiation tolerance with Flyability

A Flyability Case Study

Preview of the Idaho Environmental Coalition Case Study

Idaho Environmental Coalition tests Flyability’s Elios 3 in 10,000 R/h radiation

The Idaho Environmental Coalition, under contract with the Department of Energy, faced the challenge of assessing a highly radioactive underground vault to plan for waste removal. The environment was too hazardous for humans, so they needed a remote method to create 3D maps of the cluttered interior space. They selected Flyability's Elios 3 indoor drone for this task but first had to determine if it could withstand extreme radiation levels.

Flyability's Elios 3 was subjected to rigorous radiation tolerance testing. The drone not only met but far exceeded the minimum requirements, successfully operating in a field of 10,000 R/h and continuing to function after an accumulated dose of approximately 4,000 R. All components, including the camera and LiDAR, performed as intended under irradiation. This proved Flyability's solution could safely provide the necessary data without any human exposure to radiation.
