Holcim digitizes a cement plant in 1 day with Flyability

Holcim, one of the world's largest cement producers, faced the challenge of digitizing an entire cement plant in France for its Plants of Tomorrow initiative. The project required creating a comprehensive digital twin with a scan-to-BIM process, but traditional terrestrial laser scanning methods were too time-consuming, costly, and could not achieve full data coverage in the complex, hard-to-access environment. The company turned to Flyability and utilized its Elios 3 drone to address this challenge.

Flyability's solution used the Elios 3 drone equipped with a LiDAR scanner to capture all necessary data in just one day of flying, a massive reduction from the estimated 10 days required by traditional methods. This resulted in a complete, gap-free BIM model with 100% data coverage. The project was completed for a fraction of the expected cost, saving at least 30,000 Euros by eliminating the need for external contractors. For Flyability, this successful application provided Holcim with the accurate digital model needed to plan new carbon capture technology and demonstrate its decarbonization efforts.
