GammaTec NDT Solutions, a provider of non-destructive testing equipment in Africa, was challenged to perform a survey of a narrow, inaccessible stope at a gold mine in Zimbabwe. Traditional scanning methods were slow, required multiple access points, and provided limited data coverage, creating safety risks and data gaps for the mine's planning teams. GammaTec deployed Flyability's Elios 3 drone to address this challenge.

Using the collision-tolerant Elios 3 drone equipped with a LiDAR surveying payload, Flyability's solution enabled a single-pilot operation that was completed in just a 7-minute flight. The scan achieved 90% data coverage of the target area, a 125% improvement over the previous method which only achieved 40-50% coverage. This provided the mine with highly accurate data for strategic planning while significantly improving operational safety and speed.
