DC Water faced the challenge of inspecting the Anacostia Force Main, a critical 9-foot-diameter wastewater pipeline serving over 113,000 customers, without risking human entry into the hazardous confined space. Flyability's solution used the collision-tolerant Elios 3 drone to remotely map and inspect 850 linear feet of the pipeline during a brief low-flow window. The Elios 3 captured high-quality LiDAR and visual data, which was processed into detailed models and reports. This approach eliminated confined space entry, kept teams safe from hazards, and completed the survey in just three hours instead of the days or weeks required by traditional methods, providing DC Water with the data needed to plan crucial refurbishments.
