City of Lausanne cuts tank inspection time from 5 days to half a day with Flyability

The City of Lausanne's Water Department faced the challenge of inspecting dangerous and confined water assets, including wastewater vaults and storage tanks. These inspections required personnel to enter hazardous confined spaces and work at height, posing significant safety risks. To improve safety and data accuracy, the department turned to Flyability and its Elios 3 drone.

Flyability's solution used the Elios 3's LiDAR sensor to create precise indoor 3D maps of the assets, eliminating the need for personnel to enter confined spaces. This allowed inspectors to geolocate defects for monitoring and conduct simulations. The results included a dramatic improvement in safety and a massive reduction in inspection time; a tank slab inspection that previously took five days was completed in half a day. The City of Lausanne's Water Department has now permanently adopted the Elios 3 for its internal inspection work.
