A Flyability Case Study
Academy Geomatics, a UK-based surveying company, was challenged by Northumbrian Water to accurately map and determine the condition of a 60-meter sewer pipe located 10 meters underground. The project required working in a confined space with significant safety risks and potential hazards. To meet this challenge, Academy Geomatics employed the Elios 3 drone from Flyability to conduct the survey without needing physical entry into the sewer.
Using Flyability's Elios 3, the team safely captured high-quality LiDAR and visual data remotely. The solution eliminated the need for a rescue team on standby and rope access, dramatically improving safety. The entire survey was completed by just two people in half a day, a task that would have traditionally taken three days. The data collected was accurate to within 20 millimeters, providing the client with survey-grade results for their construction planning. Flyability's technology enabled Academy Geomatics to complete the project four times faster while entirely avoiding confined space entry.
