Preview of the Major US Nuclear Power Plant Case Study

a major US nuclear power plant detects radiation hotspots in real time with Flyability’s Elios 3 RAD payload

A major US nuclear power plant needed a new system to safely locate and measure radiation hotspots within its facility, particularly in high-radiation areas like the turbine deck and main steam lines. To meet this challenge, they partnered with Flyability to trial the Elios 3 drone equipped with a specialized RAD payload.

Flyability implemented a solution using the collision-resistant Elios 3 drone carrying the RAD sensor, which provided real-time radiation data and created detailed 3D models of the surveyed areas. This allowed the plant to successfully identify high-dose radiation hotspots in steam pipe bends without exposing technicians to hazards. The results provided accurate, thorough data that reflected true field conditions, with the workflow proving more effective and having a longer range than previous methods. Flyability's solution enhanced safety and provided a powerful new norm for radiation surveys.
