The customer, a cement plant in France, faced the challenge of manually measuring its clinker inventory. This traditional method required personnel to stand on a high, unstable platform inside a dusty silo and use a pole to estimate the volume, a process that was both dangerous and produced inaccurate data. To address this, the plant tested the Elios 3 drone from vendor Flyability.

Using the Elios 3's LiDAR sensor, Flyability provided a solution that allowed for quick and safe data collection. The drone's 3D Live Map enabled flight in the silo's zero-visibility dust conditions. The results were highly accurate volume measurements achieved in just 30 minutes total—10 minutes of flight and 20 minutes of processing—significantly improving both safety by eliminating the need for personnel to work at height and the accuracy of the inventory data.
