A Fluxx Case Study
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is a Miami-based philanthropic organization that awards roughly 450–500 grants a year totaling about $125 million. After grantees asked for greater transparency and collaboration, Knight found its legacy system (Microedge GIFTS) produced a slow, opaque process—taking 30–60 days—and wanted a configurable solution to streamline grantmaking.
Knight implemented the Fluxx grants management platform, including a robust grantee portal and dashboards, going live in January 2013 and onboarding grantees by March. The change cut the process from 22 to 11 steps, improved speed by 60% (with some grants now completed in about a week), delivered 100% transparency, eliminated paper reporting, and put roughly 600 active grantees and staff on a single, mobile-accessible system.
