How textPlus Improved Engagement in One Month with Flurry

textPlus, maker of the NextPlus app that provides free US/Canada phone numbers, voice and SMS, faced a retention challenge: users on iOS were converting to first-message send at substantially lower rates than Android (iOS ~54% vs Android ~70% in the U.S.), with similar gaps in Canada. To diagnose the problem they partnered with Flurry to compare in‑house BI against rapid, drill‑down analytics and visual funnels.

Using Flurry’s Explorer to inspect client-to-platform flows, textPlus discovered iOS users experienced higher SMS verification failures tied to iOS permissions and APNS token registration. After fixing the issue, U.S. conversion rose about 8% within a month and daily return rate increased from 14.42% to 46.33% — significantly improving first‑touch engagement, retention, and churn.
