Using ClearSight Analyzer for Troubleshooting VoIP problems

China Telecom's Operation & Maintenance center was challenged by a key customer experiencing poor video quality during conferences on a rented 155M bps line. The customer believed the issue was due to packet loss and jitter on China Telecom's network, but the provider's routine testing could not detect any problems, leading to the threat of contract penalties. Fluke Networks and its ClearSight Analyzer product were employed to help isolate the root cause of the issue.

Using the ClearSight Analyzer, Fluke Networks was able to capture and analyze the MPEG-4 video traffic, identifying a 3.68% unidirectional packet loss. This evidence proved the problem was not on China Telecom's network but was instead located on the customer's own local area network between a video terminal and an access switch. After replacing the problematic switch and forcing its ports into the correct mode, the video quality issue was completely resolved, safeguarding the business relationship and preventing financial penalties.
