University of Bath builds a $4m carbon emissions data platform with Fluent

The University of Bath, in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, faced the challenge of visualizing incredibly dense and complex academic research data on carbon emissions for non-technical stakeholders. They engaged Fluent to create a web-based platform that could make these intricate, large-scale datasets from their C-THRU and UK FIRES initiatives accessible and understandable through advanced data visualisation.

Fluent implemented a scalable React and NextJS web application using D3 for visualisations, creating an interactive Sankey diagram browser. This solution allowed users to intuitively explore and drill down into the data, transforming how researchers communicate their findings. The platform provided considerable clarity, enabling far more efficient access to insights and giving users the newfound freedom to curate and present data for their specific audiences.
