Case Study: EPSO-G achieves grid stability and renewable integration with Fluence energy storage

A Fluence Case Study

Preview of the EPSO-G Case Study

A powerful asset for Lithuania’s European grid interconnection and renewables transition

EPSO-G, a Lithuanian energy holding company, faced the challenge of ensuring grid stability as the country prepared to synchronize with the continental European power grid and integrate a high proportion of renewable energy. This energy transition required new, innovative solutions to manage frequency and voltage issues. To address this, EPSO-G subsidiary Energy Cells partnered with Fluence to deploy a large-scale energy storage solution.

Fluence implemented a 200 MW/200 MWh portfolio of energy storage systems, strategically installed at four substations across Lithuania. This solution provides critical transmission-enhancing services, including primary frequency control and power oscillation damping, with an ultra-fast response time of under 200 milliseconds. The Fluence systems ensure a reliable and stable electricity supply, supporting Lithuania's grid synchronization and enabling its ambitious shift toward renewable energy. This project is one of the largest of its kind in Europe.
