A Flowmon Networks Case Study
AFR-IX Telecom, a telecommunications provider in West and Central Africa, needed to maintain high service quality while protecting its extensive backbone and marine cable infrastructure from volumetric DDoS attacks. The company also wanted a fully automated, cost-efficient out-of-band defense that could work with its existing Cisco flow-export and BGP Flowspec environment, while improving traffic visibility and network performance monitoring. Flowmon Networks provided the Flowmon Collector VA and Flowmon DDoS Defender to meet these needs.
Flowmon Networks implemented a joint Flowmon and F5 solution that collected and analyzed NetFlow data, detected attacks in near real time, and automatically redirected malicious traffic to an out-of-path F5 BIG-IP AFM mitigation device when attacks persisted. The deployment also enabled detailed reporting, alerting, and post-attack analysis, helping AFR-IX Telecom reduce MTTR and troubleshoot daily operational issues more effectively. According to the customer, the solution kept traffic clear during attacks and improved overall network performance, with months of flow history available for investigation.
