World Food Programme - Customer Case Study

The World Food Programme in Sudan worked with Floodbase to improve flood monitoring and emergency response during the 2021 rainy season. Faced with record rainfall, widespread flooding, and the need to prioritize aid across the country, the team needed timely flood intelligence and risk analysis to identify the areas most at risk and guide response efforts.

Floodbase provided full-country flood monitoring with weekly updates, high-resolution emergency flood maps, and historical risk analytics. The results included delivering high-res flood extents and impact statistics within 24 hours of the Al Fao flood, helping assess an estimated 20,000 affected people, supporting reconstruction planning across 43 villages after the White Nile dyke breach, and enabling WFP Sudan to pilot a flood risk financing scheme in three high-risk areas.
