Case Study: FEMA Achieves Continuous Hurricane Flood Situational Awareness with Floodbase

FEMA monitored 506,000 square miles of flooding with Floodbase during the 2024 hurricane season

The customer, FEMA, faced the challenge of quickly establishing situational awareness across vast multi-state regions to efficiently respond and allocate resources during the 2024 hurricane season, which caused over $220 billion in damages. To address this, FEMA utilized Floodbase's near real-time flood data response product for continuous monitoring.

Floodbase provided FEMA with daily flood extent and severity data throughout five major hurricanes, monitoring a total of 506,000 square miles. During Hurricane Helene, this data enabled FEMA to visualize flooding across 281,000 square miles, directly inform leadership briefings, and rapidly identify zip codes for a cash relief program, allowing assistance checks to be issued to survivors within weeks.
