How Merion Mercy provided students with trustworthy AI writing feedback through Flint

Merion Mercy Academy, an all-girls Catholic school in Pennsylvania, faced the challenge of integrating AI into education responsibly after the release of ChatGPT. The school's Director of Innovation sought a platform that would prepare students for a future with AI, open conversations about its use, and fundamentally help students become better writers without resorting to plagiarism.

The school partnered with vendor Flint and implemented its essay tutor feature. This solution provided students with immediate, actionable, and trustworthy AI-generated feedback based on specific teacher rubrics. The results were highly positive, with teachers saving significant grading time and students engaging in shorter feedback loops. A measurable impact was that 61.6% of the school's AI tutor usage was for essays, far exceeding the platform-wide average of 13.6%, and instances of AI plagiarism concerns were minimal.
